Assemblies
View
a short movie
In his 50 minute assembly,
John performs a cross section of material from his CDs including songs
from his two popular family albums. These sets include such kid favorites
as "A Manatee Sneezed on Me"," My Brother Ricky's for
Sale" and "Popcorn."
If at all possible, when performing in elementary schools, John prefers
separating younger and older students for his shows, (i.e., k-3, 4-6). For
the little guys, John's show is non-stop silliness and audience
participation. And while his presentations to older students also
contain a good deal these elements, John will take more time in explaining
the origins of his songs, as well as how the writing process helped him
personally in dealing with life experiences; with joy and laughter as well
as loss, fear, and anger. The subject matter, while completely age and
environment appropriate gives these assemblies a wider emotional range.
John's honesty and openness win his music an acceptance and enthusiasm not
often granted assembly performers by older students.
