What would you give just to have their lives back
To turn back the clock and to stop the attack
What would you give to undo what’s been done
And give those moms and dads back their daughters and sons

What if you were given the power to decide (you were!)
That men don’t need weapons of war by their side
Loving your enemies like Jesus said
Forgiving us all from the cross where he bled

A hero ain’t someone who’s living in fear
Stockpiling weapons and tactical gear
A hero is someone who’d lay down his life
God knows this country needs heroes tonight

What would you give to have those children back
To go back in time and to stop the attack
What would you give to undo what’s been done
Would you give up your life… would you give up your gun

If you say yes to one but say no to the second
That you’d give up your life but not give up your weapon
Then the gun is an idol your lost soul erects
And means more than the life that you claim it protects

If you say no to one also no to the other
And admit you’d not die for the child of a brother
Then at least you are honest and have my respect
For facing a truth that most cowards reject

What would you give just to have their lives back
To go back in time and to stop the attack
Just how much would you offer if the offer prevents
More unholy slaughter of the innocents
