We had a wonderful time in Okemah! If
you ever have a chance to check out the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival make sure
not to miss it... (since in the spirit of Woody the Guthrie family has insisted
that the audience not be charged any admission it will only cost you travel
expenses...) This year's highlight for me was performing with my son Sean. His
rendition of Phil Och's "I'm Going to Say It Now" was a show stopper that one of
the folks who run the festival counted as one of the festival's most memorable
moments ever!
(Not only does the apple fall FAR from this tree...the apple got kicked by a
passing mule causing it to roll down a hill and over an embankment into a
stream where the rushing water carried it, bobbing merrily, all the way to a
river... trust me gang, the journey for this apple has only begun!) Anyway, the
audience was really great, and my last couple songs were filmed by the BBC for a
forthcoming documentary on American folk music.
