I was asked to sing at a recent dinner celebrating the 40 anniversary of Pacem in Terris. The guest speaker was Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and best selling author Ron Suskind.  Ron had, just days before, declined the invitation by former Prime Minister Bhutto of Pakistan to accompany her and document her return to her country from self imposed exile. This return as you may recall was met with an assassination attempt that killed more than a hundred people.  Ron was asked who among the current slate of American presidential candidates held out the most hope of solving the problems in our nation and our world. He shook his head and told us what we all kind of already suspect; that the needed change will not come from Washington. It will, Ron assured us, come from regular people. People in motion. People in action. People in groups like Pacem,  that meet each week in church basements and school cafeterias. It brought to mind that great quote from Margaret Mead "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

My legendary agent Tshirt Cathy has set up a myspace page for me at http://www.myspace.com/johnflynnfolksinger.  I must confess to some prior ignorance about this stuff but have to admit it’s cool in that you can hear entire songs of mine when you visit the page. The ‘friends’ thing is interesting as well. Kind of feels like I’m wandering around internet high school getting my yearbook signed.
