Received very sad news last night
that our friend from the New Orleans tour, Jack Neilson has passed away
unexpectedly. Jack was a young man but apparently died in his sleep from a
massive stroke. I only got to know Jack a bit on the road where we bonded a
little as the least known performers on the bill. Most of our
conversations took place outside the Mens Rooms where Jack would sneak off to to
warm up before opening the shows. There was always a lot of noise and
confusion backstage and Jack would seek out maybe the one quiet place where he
could hear himself... He'd stand eyes closed, facing a cinder block wall,
strumming his guitar in an almost trance-like state... singing Woody Guthrie's
favorite song, "Hobo's Lullaby", in his warm beautiful voice. I
never got tired of hearing him sing that song and will never again hear it
without remembering this big soulful man . "Go to sleep you weary hobo..." God
bless you, Jack.
