Want to feel great? The next time someone expects you to sound off at them,
have some fun and make them smile instead. I'll give you an example. On the road
the other day a lady took a parking space I had obviously been waiting for.
Annoyed, I drove up next to her and, indicated by gesture (not that gesture!)
that I had something to say. As she lowered her window a little, her face
hardened and she prepared for whatever verbal abuse she was about to receive.
For some reason it made me laugh and all I could think of to say was, “Well M’am,
I guess you showed me!” She smiled in such obvious relief and (I think)
embarrassment. As I drove off to continue my search for a space I felt so much
better than I would’ve if I’d decided to be angry with her.
The key word here is "decided". It was my choice to feel good. It's not one I
make enough but little victories can lead to bigger ones, right?

I had such a great time opening the season for Concerts Under the Stars.
Although I do a lot of folk festivals, I'm frankly not that used to being the
headliner in front of big crowds. Thanks to the hundreds of folks who came out
to the show. Many of you have supported my music for years.

As if it was needed, I did receive further confirmation that some of my new
songs are a bit dark. A dear friend wrote me the day after a concert. Upon
listening to my show he was concerned about my state of mind and offered to
send me his box of "Rockie and Bullwinkle" cartoons. It sure made me think.
Perhaps he was on to something. For although it may represent a classic fallacy
by association (post hoc ergo procter hoc...), it is undeniable that my
view of life changed a bit at just about the same time I stopped getting my TV
light filtered through translucent images of clever talking animals. Curious.
